elastic limit

(mechanics) The maximum stress a solid can sustain without undergoing permanent deformation.

The greatest stress to which a material may be subjected and still be capable of returning to its original dimensions when the forces are released.

The greatest stress which a material is capable of sustaining without permanent deformation upon complete release of the stress.

The limit of stress within which the strain in a material completely disappears when the stress is removed. If a solid material is stretched beyond its elastic limit, it becomes permanently deformed.
