Electra

1. In Greek myth, daughter of Agamemnon and Clytemnestra. She does not appear in epic, but in the tragedies of Aeschylus (especially Choephoroe; see ORESTEIA), Sophocles, and Euripides she becomes a heroic figure in the story of the House of Atreus (see PELOPS), represented as implacably hostile to Clytemnestra and her lover Aegisthus, faithful to her father's memory and devoted to her brother Orestes, whom she supports in the vengeance he takes on Clytemnestra and Aegisthus. She eventually marries Orestes' faithful friend Pylades. Her supposed tomb was shown in later times at Mycenae.

2. In Greek myth, daughter of the Titan Atlas, mother by Zeus of Dardanus (see TROY).
