Electric Honey

Wikipedia: Electric Honey (label)

Electric Honey is a record label run by students studying the HNC & HND in Music Business course, as well as students studying the Advanced Diploma in Music Industry Management & Marketing course at Stow College in Glasgow, Scotland. The label is overseen by Douglas MacIntyre (Creeping Bent Organisation) and Ken McCluskey (The Bluebells).

Every year students choose an act to sign to the label and release a record as part of their course. The label's first success came in 1996 with the release of Belle & Sebastian's Tigermilk (the first full length album to be released on the label). It was released in limited numbers (as with all the label's releases) and is therefore seen as a collector's item, fetching up to £400 on internet auction sites. Other artists that have had success after initially being with Electric Honey are Snow Patrol (then known as Polar Bear) and Biffy Clyro.

Current signings include Wake The President, State Broadcasters and Woodenbox With A Fistful Of Fivers.

In the past, Stow College students also ran the labels Gdansk Recordings, which focuses on releasing electronic music, and Root8 Recordings, which releases world music. However, as of 2007, students focus solely on the running of Electric Honey.
