Elena Vesnina (born August 1 1986 in Lvov, Ukraine) is a professional female tennis player from Russia. She reached the fourth round at the 2006 Australian Open, losing to Nadia Petrova 6-3, 6-1. The following year she lost 8-6 in the third to Maria Elena Camerin in the second round.

Following a victory over Li Na at the end of 2006 6-2, 1-6, 7-6(11) after being down 0-5 in the third, and then losing to then-No. 1 Amelie Mauresmo 5-7, 6-3, 7-6(3), along with a 6-7(4), 6-4, 6-2 loss to Jelena Janković the following week, she was considered a promising talent. She is now working with George Akopian who once brought up Evgenia Linetskaya to Top 35 in WTA.

Playing style

Vesnina is a baseliner who is also proficient at net and can finish rallies from there after getting her opponent out of position. She emphasizes ball placement and strategy. Vesnina's biggest weakness is her serve—Vesnina often double faults once or twice per game in her matches.
