Biography

Songwriter Eliot Daniel earned Oscar nominations for writing the song "Lavender Blue" from So Dear to My Heart (1949) and for the lyrics to "Never" from Golden Girl (1951). Interestingly, his most famous song is one for which he originally wanted no credit, the theme for the original I Love Lucy television series. When asked to write the song, Daniel asked that his name be removed from the credits because he was sure the show would flop. Only after the show became a smash hit did he ask that he receive credit and therefore royalties for the tune. His request was granted. Daniel died of cancer on December 6, 1997. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide
