Hahn, Elise (Stuttgart, 1769-1833, Frankfurt/Main), without knowing G. A. Bürger proposed to him by means of an original poem which was published for her by a Stuttgart newspaper in 1789 and sent to Bürger at Göttingen. Bürger married her in 1790. The marriage was a disastrous failure and was dissolved in 1792 on the ground of her adultery. She wrote plays (including Adelheid, Gräfin von Teck) and stories, most of which were published in 1799. Her later life was spent mainly in Leipzig and Dresden. She is often termed ‘das Schwabenmädchen’ or ‘Schwabenmädle’, and used the latter form herself.
