Elizabeth West

West, Elizabeth (b Alassio, 1927, d nr. Matterhorn, 28 Sept. 1962). British dancer, choreographer, and director. She studied with E. Espinosa and at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. From 1946 she worked at the Bristol Old Vic, choreographing occasionally there and at the Shakespeare Festival in Stratford-upon-Avon. In 1957 she founded Western Theatre Ballet (now Scottish Ballet) with Darrell. As well as choreographing Stravinsky's Pulcinella and Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf (both 1957) for the company she was the visionary driving force behind it. She died in a climbing accident.
