Elle

Up-market women's magazine, founded in 1945, which achieved an avant-garde reputation in the 1950s and 1960s for its handling of sexual issues and its publication of Simone de Beauvoir. Overtaken by second-wave feminism in the early 1970s, it had reorganized by 1980 as the thinking woman's fashion magazine.
