Biography

American cinematographer Ellsworth Fredericks was a product of the Hollywood studio system, performing his job quickly and efficiently no matter what the quality of the actors, script or directors. If he happened to be involved in a project of unusual merit--such as 1957's Sayonara, for which he was Oscar-nominated--Fredericks would be afforded recognition. If the project was a middling effort like 1966's Pistolero, Fredericks' contribution would go unheralded. Science-fiction aficionados will immediately associate Ellsworth Fredericks with the straightforward camerawork for that most unstraightforward of alien-visitation flicks, 1956's The Invasion of the Body Snatchers. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
