Biography

With her engaging stage presence and alto vocals, it didn't take long for singer/songwriter Emily West to get a foothold in Nashville's country music scene. The youngest of four children, West was born in Waterloo, Iowa, where she discovered Patsy Cline at a young age and began taking voice lessons from a local rock singer. Inspired to pursue a career in country music, she began making regular trips to Nashville and worked to finish high school early. She graduated in 2000 and quickly moved to Nashville, where she signed a publishing deal with the local Warner-Chapell company and caught the ear of producer Mike Dungan, who signed her to Capitol Records Nashville. A self-titled four-song EP was released via the Internet in late 2007, which the debut single "Rocks in Your Shoes" hit the Billboard country charts in 2008. ~ Steve Leggett, All Music Guide

Biography

West, the youngest of four children, was born in Waterloo, Iowa. She moved to Nashville, Tennessee in 2000 following her graduation from Waterloo West High School in hopes of achieving her goals of becoming a country music singer.[2] West soon signed a deal with a publishing company in Nashville, Warner-Chapell. West was then signed to Capitol Records Nashville when producer Mike Dungan listened to her demo tapes.[3] One of her first appearances was as a background vocalist on Chely Wright's 2005 album The Metropolitan Hotel.[4]

West is married to CCM singer Matthew West

Capitol released a self-titled EP December 11, 2007 to the iTunes music store. In early 2008, West was featured in People Magazine and completed a media tour for her debut single, "Rocks in Your Shoes".[5] "Rocks in Your Shoes" peaked in the Top 40 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart in early 2008. The song received a "thumbs up" rating from The 9513 critic Jim Malec, who called it "a fun-but-gritty up-tempo that exudes confidence and perfectly frames her music."[6] A second single, "That Kind of Happy" was released in April.

West appeared on Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader? on September 25, 2009, winning $25,000. In early 2010, West will release a duet with labelmate Keith Urban titled "Blue Sky," it is the second single from her upcoming studio album, which is expected for release in 2010.
