Organization that sets the standards for electronic media ratings surveys and commissions audits of audience measurement services such as acnielsen company and arbitron ratings company; formerly known as the Broadcast Rating Council, until 1982. Founded in 1964 and headquartered in New York City, EMRC is composed of members of broadcast trade associations, electronic media owners, and national networks. Its primary function is to monitor and accredit independent ratings services.
