Enrique de Lucas

Oxford Grove Art:

Jean-Robert-Nicolas Lucas de Montigny

(b Rouen, 9 Dec 1747; d Paris, 29 Jan 1810). French sculptor. He trained with Jean-Baptiste Pigalle and also from 1773 at the Acad?mie Royale de Peinture et de Sculpture, Paris, but, despite his undoubted talents as a sculptor, he never became an academician. In 1777 he set up on his own in Paris and was soon in fashionable demand, producing portraits such as that of Mlle d'Oligny (terracotta, 1778; Paris, Mus. Cognacq-Jay). Portraits of actors, such as his bust of Pr?ville as Figaro (patinated plaster, 1782) or the statuette of Mme de Saint-Huberty as Dido (plaster, 1784; both Paris, Louvre), show a responsive delicacy, but the uncompromising realism of his portraiture is seen at its best in the powerful busts of his patron Honor? Riqueti, Comte de Mirabeau, whom he sculpted in plaster in 1781 and 1790 (both in priv. cols) and in marble in 1791 (Aix-en-Provence, Mus. Arbaud). From 1781 to 1792 Lucas produced a series of plaster and terracotta statuettes of mythological subjects and historical characters, now all lost.

Club career

Born in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, Province of Barcelona, Catalonia, de Lucas emerged through the ranks of RCD Espanyol, making his first team debut on May 15, 1998, at Real Valladolid, in his sole appearance of the season, being immediately promoted to the main squad.

Subsequently, he became an important offensive element for the Catalonians, appearing in 30 La Liga matches with four goals in 1999–2000, while helping the club to the season's Copa del Rey.

After his contract expired in 2002, and after an unassuming loan spell at Paris Saint-Germain the previous year, de Lucas joined Chelsea FC,[1] being relatively used in a sole season. His only Chelsea goal was a well executed chip in the UEFA Cup against Viking FK in a 2–1 win (5–4 loss on aggregate).[2]

He then returned to Spain, having a huge impact at Deportivo Alavés, although most of his stint was spent in the second level. He scored six goals in 40 contests, as the Basque returned to the topflight after two years, being immediately relegated the following season.

After another level two season, de Lucas became Real Murcia's first signing after it achieved a top level return in 2007, agreeing on a two-year deal. In his first year, he featured heavily, notably scoring in a 1–1 home draw against Real Madrid, but Murcia returned to the second division.

In August 2009, de Lucas had a trial with English second level side Blackpool FC, after his Murcia link had expired,[3] alongside Will Haining and Ishmel Demontagnac.[4] However, he signed with FC Cartagenafreshly returned to the second level – shortly after.[5] He scored the first goal of 2009–10, a 1–0 success at Girona FC.

In late June 2010, after nearly helping Cartagena to another promotion (fifth place, with chances of promotion until the last two rounds), while scoring a career-best 11 goals, de Lucas moved to Celta de Vigo, for two years.

International career

De Lucas made four appearances for the Spanish under-21 side, in a one-year span.[1]
