Second Skin continued to work the badlands between downbeat material and drum'n'bass with the second long-player from bassist Charlie Tate and DJ Matt Harris expanding upon their 1997 debut, the impressively titled Imperial Solution. Live instrumentation played a greater role, a result of working with a number of musicians on a substantial tour, while the pair also began to experiment with vocals, with an Esther Phillips a cappella used to great effect within "California Suite" and Melissa Heathcote's gorgeous delivery of "Koobesq."
