Entertainment Tonight Canada (often shortened to ET Canada) is a Canadian entertainment newsmagazine series, launched on September 12, 2005 on Global. The program is patterned after the American series Entertainment Tonight, and collaborates closely with its American parent. ET Canada airs weeknights; on most Global stations it airs at 7:00pm followed by the American version. In Manitoba and Saskatchewan, it airs at 10:00 pm; in British Columbia it airs at 7:30, as a border station in Seattle carries the American version at 7:00. (See simultaneous substitution.)
ET Canada is hosted by longtime Global Ontario entertainment reporter Cheryl Hickey. Reporters associated with the program include Rosey Edeh (formerly of CNN and MSNBC), Roz Weston (formerly of Toronto 1's The A-List), Rick Campanelli (formerly of MuchMusic), Kim D'Eon (formerly of CBC News: The Hour & Street Cents), Erin Cebula, Natasha Gargiulo and broadcast journalist/actress Olivia Cheng (formerly of Global Edmonton, Global BC, and the Edmonton Journal).
Success
As of January 27, 2006, ET Canada celebrated its 100th episode claiming to be the "Most Watched Entertainment News Program in Canada", suggesting it has quickly overcome the longstanding eTalk Daily as Canada's 'number one entertainment news program'. The show was nominated for a Gemini award in the best general interest series category in 2006.
Treatment of footage from competing networks
If ET Canada airs a scene from a program on a competing Canadian network, that network's logo is blurred out; if it is a scene from a program that's from a network in the USA, that network's logo is kept in, since Global generally acquires rights to programs that appear on American networks, usually simultaneously with the American channels.
