Review

One of the most important Scandinavian metal discs ever, Dimmu Borgir's Enthrone Darkness Triumphant is the group's unquestioned masterpiece. The success of the 1997 offering is probably due to two facts: the band's signing to metal powerhouse label Nuclear Blast and the decision to write their lyrics in English, the universal language of metal. Having Peter Tagtgren man the recording console wasn't a bad decision, either. The producer assisted Dimmu Borgir in creating the most crushing sound of their career. It's difficult to pick standout cuts from Enthrone Darkness Triumphant, as each song is as brutal and musical as the next. The intensity simply never lets up on this release. Fans of Dimmu Borgir and black metal in general are highly encouraged to obtain a copy of this seminal record at the earliest opportunity. ~ Vincent Jeffries, All Music Guide

Enthrone Darkness Triumphant is the third studio album by Norwegian symphonic black metal band Dimmu Borgir. It was recorded in January 1997 at Abyss Studios in Sweden. The album was a huge success for the band and was their first release on Nuclear Blast Records, as well as their first full-length to contain lyrics in English. It has been put out on many formats including a limited edition vinyl (300 white & 1000 black). In 2002 a Deluxe CD version was released with bonus material.

It was also the group's first album to display the newer logo, though the old "black metal" logo is seen in the back cover artwork on the original printing.

Due to concerns from Nuclear Blast the lyrics for the song "Tormenter of Christian Souls" was omitted from the booklet.
