An Entrenching tool or E-tool, is a collapsible shovel used by military forces for digging of latrines, foxholes, fighting positions, etc. Survivalists, campers, hikers, and other outdoors groups have found it to be indispensable in field use. The German Bundeswehr uses serrated and sharpened E-tools instead of bayonets in close-quarter fighting.[citation needed]
