Epic Center
The Epic Center is a skyscraper located in Wichita, Kansas.
At 325 feet, it is the tallest building in the city of Wichita, and the entire state of Kansas. The tallest structure in the state is the KWCH Tower.
History
The Epic Center was constructed in 1987, and officially opened for business in 1989. Created as a lure for businesses to the downtown area, the Epic Center helped create a "big city" feel for Wichita at a time when the economy was fluctuating. The building has 28 stories.
Originally, the plans called for two twin towers to be built, but those plans were scrapped in favor of a single tower due to the fear that the occupany level would never reach near capacity. However, the building quickly filled up with tenants, and has since remained successful[citation needed].
Today
Today the skyscraper's tenants include law firms, banking and loan corporations, and many other businesses. Because of the booming[citation needed] downtown development currently happening in Wichita, it has been speculated[citation needed] that other skyscrapers may soon be constructed in similar fashion in downtown Wichita. In 2005, a rumor[citation needed] that "Epic II", the original second tower was to be built next door surfaced as well. As of September, 2007, no such plans have been brought forward.
