Epicor (NASDAQ: EPIC) develops a range of enterprise software targeted at midmarket companies primarily in the manufacturing, distribution, retail, hospitality and services industries. The company is headquartered in Irvine, California and was founded in 1984 as Platinum Software Corporation. In the late 1990’s, executives made some strategic acquisitions to help evolve Platinum from a provider of financial accounting systems to a provider of end-to-end enterprise solutions. To help solidify the transformation, the company went through a name change. In May 1999, Platinum Software changed its name to Epicor Software Corporation.
Following are some of the company's notable acquisitions/divestitures:
- 1997 - Acquired Clientele Software Inc. (Clientele is a CRM solution for managing customer-centric processes, with modules for support, sales, marketing and self-service)
- 1998 - Platinum Software Corporation and DataWorks Corporation merger extends company's manufacturing ERP offering
- 2001 - Sold Platinum for Windows (PFW) to Best Software, which was the name then used by the US branch of Sage Software
- 2002 - Acquired procurement and sourcing solutions from Clarus
- 2004 - Acquired Scala Business Solutions expanding company's global presence to 140+ countries
- 2005 - Acquired CRS Retail Systems, Inc. adding point-of-sale solutions to its retail offering
- 2008 - Epicor Completes Acquisition of NSB Retail Systems
Epicor was named in Business 2.0 magazine's 2007 list of the 100 fastest-growing technology companies (this is the company's second consecutive year on the list). In 2006, Epicor also made Fortune's 100 fastest-growing companies list.[citation needed]
