epivag

An incompletely defined venereal disease of cattle, probably caused by a herpesvirus. Cows develop a profuse purulent vaginal discharge with spread of the infection to the uterus and rendering many cows sterile because of damage to the fallopian tube and bursa. Initially in bulls there is swelling followed by fibrosis of the epididymis; associated lesions include abscess formation, ampullitis, seminal vesiculitis and degeneration of the testicles. Recorded only in Africa.
