The state of an object when the resultant forces acting on it are zero; that is, when the object is at rest or moving with uniform velocity and zero acceleration. The stability of a person depends on whether he or she is in a state of stable equilibrium, neutral equilibrium, or unstable equilibrium. See also dynamic equilibrium; static equilibrium.
