Erdgeist, a four-act tragedy in prose (Tragödie) by F. Wedekind, published in 1895. It is preceded by a verse prologue in which an animal tamer appears and emphasizes the bestial aspects of the forthcoming performance. The principal character is Lulu, the completely amoral embodiment of female sexuality. Her first lover dies of a stroke when he finds her with another; her second cuts his throat, and she shoots the third dead. Erdgeist has a sequel in Die Büchse der Pandora.
