Biography

The earliest confirmed credit for cinematographer Ernest G. Palmer was 1912's Ivanhoe. Palmer spent many years at Fox Studios, on both side of the company's 1935 merger with 20th Century Pictures. He received Academy Award nominations for Four Devils (1928), Street Angel (1929) and Broken Arrow (1950), and won an Oscar (in collaboration with Ray Rennahan) for Blood and Sand (1941). In the early 1930s, Palmer helped found the American Society of Cinematographers. Ernest G. Palmer is no relation to British cinematographer Ernest Palmer (1901-1964), though their credits are sometimes confused. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
