Writer/actor/director Ernest Thompson is best known for his play On Golden Pond. He won the Broadway Drama Guild's Best Play Award for the play in 1979 and, in 1981, won an Academy Award for his screen adaptation. Another play, West Side Waltz, appeared on Broadway in 1981, and was made into a television movie in 1995.

Thompson also wrote screenplays for 1969 (1988), Take Me Home Again (1994) and Out of Time (2000>. Some of his acting roles include parts in Another World: Somerset, Sierra and Westside Medical on television, as well as the films, Star 80 and Next Stop Wonderland.
