1. a term sometimes applied to any of the Arctic breeds of dogs, such as Samoyed, Alaskan malamute and Siberian Husky.
2. a recognized dog breed in the United Kingdom. It is a large (60–100 lb), powerful dog with a heavy, thick double coat in any color. The head is broad, ears short and erect, and tail large and bushy. Called also Husky, Esquimaux, Canadian Eskimo dog. In the United States called the American eskimo dog, which also comes in miniature and toy varieties; always white or cream.
