Roth, Eugen (Munich, 1895-1976, Munich), a Munich journalist and later an author, wrote many volumes of light satirical verse, including Dinge, die unendlich uns umkreisen (1918), Erde, der Versöhnung Stern (1920), Rose und Nessel (1951), Heitere Verse (1959), and Ins Schwarze. Limericks und Schüttelreime (1968). A selection (Das neue Eugen-Roth-Buch) appeared in 1970. He also wrote stories, including Unter Brüdern (1958) and Lebenslauf in Anekdoten (1962). Sämtliche Werke (8 vols.) appeared in 1977. His continued appeal shows in the publication of select editions of his works from the 1980s.

Eugen Roth (January 24, 1895 in Munich – April 28, 1976 in Munich) was a German lyricist and poet, he wrote mostly humorous verse.
Roth was the son of the well-known Munich writer Hermann Roth. He volunteered for service in the first world war and was severely wounded. He studied history, art history, and philosophy earning in 1922 his doctorate degree. From 1927 to 1933 he was the editor of the Münchner Neuesten Nachrichten (Newest Munich News). Especially beloved were his humorous poems, they are still considered current today.
