Biography

Best known for his work with The Paul Winter Consort, this classically trained cellist was inspired by equal parts sacred orchestral music and mid-'60s pop styles. (The innovative use of the cello by the Beatles in some of their arrangements was a strong influence on young Friesen.) His work with a diverse roster of artists over the years has further expanded his scope. He has recorded and performed with everyone from Dave Brubeck and Anthony Davis to Scott Cossu and Steven Halpern. ~ Linda Kohanov, All Music Guide
