Eumelus

Eumēlus, of the Bacchiadae of Corinth, Greek epic poet of the second half of the eighth century BC, author of an epic on the mythical and heroic history of Corinth (and perhaps other epic poems). He also wrote a famous prosodion (procession-song; see LYRIC POETRY 1) for the Messenians to sing at the festival of Apollo at Delos. The small fragment which survives in quotation is interesting as a very early specimen of lyric.
