The European Aquatics Championships, or European Championships, is the main aquatics championship for Europe. "Europeans" are held biennially and are organized/conducted by LEN, the governing body for the sport of swimming in Europe. It was first held in 1926. Since 2000 it has been held biennially in even numbered years.
LEN currently organizes championships in all five five aquatic disciplines: diving, swimming, open water swimming, synchronized swimming and water polo. However, since 1999, the European Water Polo Championship have been held separately.
The swimming portion of these championships is conducted in a long course (50 m) pool, and is considered one of the premier swimming competitions in the world. This page concerns these 50 m European Championships. For swimming, LEN also conducts an annual short-course (25 m) swimming championship.
