Biography

Brother duos have been a staple throughout folk, country and pop history, but there haven't been many identical twin acts. That's where Evan and Jaron Lowenstein come in. The Atlanta-based folk-pop duo may have a unique visual gimmick that seduces the media (even if the brothers made it a point not to promote their twinhood), but it's their blend of classic melodic songwriting and irreverent humor that earned them a cult following in the late '90s.

Born and raised in Atlanta, Evan & Jaron were given Discmans for their bar mitzvah. Shortly afterward, they became immersed in music, particularly melodic folk-pop in the vein of Simon & Garfunkel. During college, they began performing in local clubs. The duo quickly earned a devoted local fanbase through their regular performances at KaLo's Coffee House. Their independent 1995 album, Live at KaLo's Coffee House, was a hit and started a buzz around the group. In 1997, they signed with Island Records. Their major-label debut, We've Never Heard of You, Either, was released in the spring of 1998. Their self-titled follow up, which marked their debut on Columbia, appeared two years later. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide

Career

They began performing in the folk-pop genre in coffee houses in their hometown. In 1994, their live album, Live at KaLo's Coffee House, was released, and drew some attention. After touring for a year, in 1996 they released a second independent album, Not from Concentrate and performed at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. While touring they were noticed by Jimmy Buffett, who signed them to Island Records, the label on which they released We've Never Heard Of You, Either in 1998. In 2000, they released Evan and Jaron for Sony BMG Music Entertainment/Columbia Records. The album proved to be their commercial breakthrough, spawning the hit singles "Crazy for This Girl", "From My Head to My Heart", and "The Distance". At the height of their success, Evan started a family and the touring ceased. Their most recent album, Half Dozen, offered more of Americana/country sound and included six songs as well as three additional bonus tracks. They also portrayed The Everly Brothers on NBC's American Dreams.

Evan and Jaron can be seen every week on USA Network's Character Road Trip.

In March 2006, the pair appeared on ABC's reality TV show, American Inventor, showcasing their Pit Port, a container for discarded seeds and pits in various fruits and nuts.

Jaron released a solo single, "Pray for You," credited to "Jaron & the Long Road to Love," in November 2009.[1] It debuted at #58 on the Hot Country Songs charts dated for December 5, 2009.[2]
