Biography

Eve's Plum formed in 1991 when vocalist Colleen Fitzpatrick and guitarist Michael Kotch met while studying at NYU. Kotch's twin brother Ben joined on drums, and after an assortment of bass players came and went, Theo Mack joined the band. Sony snapped up Eve's Plum after they had played the East Coast for only a year and released the group's debut envy in 1993. During 1993-94, Eve's Plum showcased their driving punk-pop live show on tours with Dig and Tripping Daisy; a new single "Eye" was recorded for the soundtrack to the movie Higher Learning. Second album Cherry Alive appeared in September 1995. ~ John Bush, All Music Guide

Forming

Ben Kotch and his twin brother Michael had been looking to start a band and needed a singer and bassist. After Colleen Fitzpatrick met Michael while both were in school at New York University, she eventually became the group's singer; the band went through several bass players. The band's name was derived from actress Eve Plumb, best known as Jan Brady from The Brady Bunch.

550/Epic releases

Eve's Plum toured independently throughout 1991 and 1992. They signed to Sony Records in 1992, and in 1993 their debut album, Envy, was released but failed chart in Billboard. The first single, "Blue", was promoted heavily[citation needed] and was shown on an episode of Beavis and Butthead but did not chart. A promotional video and single for "Die Like Someone", but it also failed to make an impact.[clarification needed] The album's third single became the only single of their career to chart. "I Want It All" spent one week on the Modern Rock Chart at number 39. It was featured in The Next Karate Kid. The chart appearance led to the I Want It All Alive E.P. receiving a release,[citation needed] though limited, in 1994.

After promotion for the album ended, Theo Mack joined the group as bassist.

Another single, "Eye", appeared on the soundtrack to Higher Learning.

The band's second album, Cherry Alive, was released in September 1995. The only single released to retail, "Jesus Loves You (Not As Much As I Do)", failed to chart. Although there were no more commercial releases, several other singles were serviced to radio: "Wishing the Day Away", "Cherry Alive", and "Fairy Princess".[citation needed] None of the singles brought additional interest to the band and 550 Music dropped the band in 1996.[clarification needed]

There are a few songs which were performed live but didn't make it to a studio album, such as "Ride with You" (which was supposed to be on Cherry Alive), Lost in Space (recorded for a compilation), "Ride With You", "Ice Cream", "The Way You Look", "So What", and "Twist It" (released as a B-side).[citation needed]

Break up and post-Plum

After being dropped by their label, they continued to perform for some time after. A cover version of "Save a Prayer", on Mojo Records' 1997 The Duran Duran Tribute Album, was their final released recording.

Colleen Fitzpatrick has had commercial success with a solo career under the name Vitamin C. Michael Kotch, who married Fitzpatrick in 2004, went on to play in the band Ruth Ruth. Benjamin Kotch went on to drum for The World/Inferno Friendship Society from 1997 to 2007. Chris Giammalvo joined Madder Rose in 1997 and played on their last two albums. Theo Mack went on to become a sound man, touring with various bands.[citation needed]
