Biography

A California three-piece that has taken the sound of classic power pop and coaxed it into the 21st century, Everybody Else feature Carrick Moore Gerety on guitar and lead vocals, Austin James Williams III on bass and vocals, and Mikey McCormack on drums, vocals, and sometimes keyboards. Named for the classic Kinks song "I'm Not Like Everybody Else," the group traces its beginnings to the meeting of Gerety and McCormack after each had moved to Los Angeles. Gerety had come to California from Massachusetts with his band, the Push Kings, while McCormack's group, the Waking Hours, had decided to give the West Coast a try after establishing themselves in Virginia. Their two bands didn't fare well in Los Angeles, but Gerety and McCormack quickly struck up a friendship and working relationship, and decided to put together a power trio. After playing with a handful of bassists who didn't fit the bill, Gerety and McCormack met Williams when he pulled up stakes from Fresno, CA, and found new digs in the Silverlake district. With a sympathetic bass player at last, Everybody Else began playing out along the West Coast in 2003, and had soon won a loyal fan following in California. After selling out a self-released single and subsequent EP, Everybody Else signed with the independent label The Militia Group, and went into the studio with producer Rick Parker to record their self-titled debut album. Everybody Else was released in the spring of 2007. ~ Mark Deming, All Music Guide

History

Everybody Else was formed by Carrick Moore Gerety and Mikey McCormack after both moved to the Los Angeles area. Both had relocated with bands, hoping to win fame on the West Coast; Moore Gerety had been in a group called The Push Kings, a local band from Boston, and McCormack had been in Waking Hours.[1] Then, Moore Gerety and McCormack began working together, adding bassist Austin Williams after he moved to the area from Fresno. They began playing as Everybody Else locally in 2002; the name is taken from a song by The Kinks, "I'm Not Like Everybody Else".[1] They self-released a single and an EP, and signed to The Militia Group soon after. Rick Parker produced their debut self-titled album, recorded at Sandbox Recording Studios,[2] which was released in April 2007.[3][4][5] On March 30, 2007, they were named SPIN Band of the Day.[6] In May 2007 the band toured with Over It, The Higher, and Self Against City.[7] In 2008, the band played at select cities on Hanson's Walk Around the World Tour. [8] "1 1/2," an acoustic version of their debut album, was released in April 1, 2008 on The Militia Group.[9]

In a recent interview it was revealed that they hope to release a second album in 2009, which they are currently recording.
