An emergency situation which excuses some particular procedure or right from being followed or enforced. Thus, an exigency may justify speeding to the hospital with a critically ill person, breaking into someone's home to secure shelter from life-threatening harm, or dispensing with the warrant requirement to effect a search and seizure under the Fourth Amendment. 292 S.W. 2d 650, 657.
