Expectancy effect

Sports Science and Medicine: experimenter effects

The influence of an experimenter's behaviour, personality traits, or expectations on the outcome of an experiment. These effects can be significant when, for example, a scientist studying the action of a drug on athletic performance knows, which group is given a placebo and which group is given the drug: the effect can be nullified by conducting a double-blind study.
