Sports Science and Medicine: experimental group

A group of subjects exposed to the independent variable of an experiment (compare control group). Typically, the experimental group is treated with the independent variable to test an experimental hypothesis. The resultant effect, measured by a dependent variable, is compared with the control group. If a statistically significant difference (see statistical significance) is found between measurements of the dependent variable in the experimental and control groups, then the experimental hypothesis is supported. If there is no significant difference, the null hypothesis is supported.
