Scientific method that involves a sequence of procedures: observation, identification of a problem, hypothesis formulation, experimentation, analysis of data, and interpretation that involves acceptance, rejection, or modification of a hypothesis. In sports science and medicine, the effects of a variable on an experimental group is often compared with its effects on a control group of subjects.
