external validity

Sports Science and Medicine: external validity

1. The applicability of experimental results to real situations.

2. In statistics, the extent to which the results of an investigation may be generalized to the population as a whole, and to other populations, settings, measurement devices, etc. External validity depends, among other things, on the adequacy of the sample.
