Plot

In the more ethical days of the 1920s, critics cast aspersions on Johnny Walker's newspaper reporter in this picture because he had to misrepresent himself and become a thief to get his story. Nowadays, that's typical behavior for your average movie hero. When veteran newspaperman Jim Rogers (Wilson Hummell) fails to get a story about a big cotton deal, he is fired, and cub reporter Barry Price (Walker) is put on the job. The wealthy man refuses to be interviewed, so Price goes to work for him as a butler. Meanwhile, Rogers' daughter, Myra (Edna Murphy), who is the man's secretary, is determined to get the same papers that Price wants because they will get her father his job back. But they're not the only ones after these papers -- a scapegrace nephew also wants them. The nephew winds up breaking into the safe and getting to them first, but Price goes in pursuit. After a climatic auto chase, Price finally obtains the documents -- but the city editor doesn't get them until he gives Rogers his job back. ~ Janiss Garza, All Movie Guide
