As a maker of recreational vehicles as well as manufactured housing, Fairmont Homes puts the mobile in mobile homes. It produces both single- and multi-section homes with up to 2,500 sq. ft. Homes are sold at retailers mostly in the central and northeastern US. Brothers Jim and John Shea acquired Fairmont Homes in 1971. (Jim bought John's share in 1975 and founded subsidiary Gulf Stream Coach, a builder of RVs, in 1983.) Gulf Stream offers around 100 models and 26 brands of luxury and economy travel trailers, toy haulers, and fifth-wheel towable vehicles. Fairmont's suppliers include Whirlpool (appliances), Georgia-Pacific (building materials), and Owens Corning (shingles and insulation).
