Fante (Mfantse) is one of the languages spoken in the Western Region of Ghana. Like Twi, it is classified as a part of the Akan language grouping. Fante is the common language for communicating between the several Kingdoms of the Fante though each has its own dialect of the language. Many Fanti are monolingual. It is classified as part of the Kwa branch of the Niger-Congo language family. Notable speakers of Fante include John Atta Mills and Kofi Annan.
