FASTWEB S.p.A. (BIT: FWB) is an Italian broadband telecommunications company. It provides voice, Internet and cable and IPTV television and FTTH connection. The cable television and IPTV service was developed by Fastweb themselves as the technology market in 2000 was not mature enough to offer the level of sophistication required to deploy and manage a premium service. Fastweb rapidly became the leading reference worldwide for how to create and build IPTV services, employing a mixture of own developed middleware and Set Top Box software[citation needed]

In May 2007, the Swiss telecommunications company Swisscom paid 3 billion euros for 82.4% of Fastweb.[1] Fastweb retains its stock market listing and remains a distinct operating entity.
