(b Nagykanizsa, 15 Dec 1905). Hungarian composer. He studied with Weiner and Siklós at the Budapest Academy (1922-7) and with Respighi in Rome (1929-31), then worked mostly as a teacher, notably at the Budapest Academy (1949-75). Stravinsky was an influence on his orchestral virtuosity, displayed in theatre and concert works; his output also includes sacred and secular choral music and songs.
