Ancestor of the British people, according to the Lebor Gabála [Book of Invasions], who dominated the island until the coming of the Saxons. Fergus was one of three sons of Nemed, along with Iarbonél and Starn, who escaped the victorious Fomorians by sailing to Britain. Earlier he slew a Fomorian chief-tain, Conand, at his tower, Tor Conaind, on the enemy stronghold of Tory Island (off Co. Donegal). His offspring Britán Máel gave his name to the British people.
