Of, relating to, or containing iron, especially with valence 3 or a valence higher than in a corresponding ferrous compound.

Containing or having to do with iron. The difference between ferrous and ferric is the number of valence electrons they contain (ferrous contains two and ferric contains three), which combine with other atoms to form molecules. See ferromagnetic, ferroelectric and ferric oxide.

Containing iron in its plus-three oxidation state, Fe(III) (sometimes designated Fe3+).
