Porcius Festus was appointed procurator of Judea c. A.D. 60 when his notorious predecessor Felix was recalled to Rome (Acts 24:27). Festus seems to have been a sincere man, who made genuine efforts to resolve the growing enmity between the Jews and the Roman occupation. In Paul's case, he made efforts to ensure a proper trial, and when Paul appealed to Caesar, Festus gave orders that he be escorted to Rome (Acts 25:12 ff).
