The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) wants to make sure roads and highways in the US are safe. The agency, which is part of the US Department of Transportation (DOT), offers funding and technical support for the construction and preservation of highways across the nation. FHWA's more than $30 billion budget provides support for local and state governments, as well as national parks, national forests, Indian lands, and other federally owned land. The organization receives funding from fuel and motor vehicle excise taxes. FHWA has field offices throughout the US.
