fibropapilloma

(fī′brōpap′ilō-mə)
n

A lesion that resembles a benign neoplasm and shows fibroblastic and epithelial proliferation. Such lesions occur in regions of cheek chewing or other trauma. Because they are not true neoplasms, they may be better designated as irritation fibroses or fibrous hyperplasias.

The common wart composed of epithelial and connective tissue caused by species-specific papillomaviruses, genus Papovaviridae. See also papilloma, fibroma, papillomavirus.

  • genital f. — see genital papillomatosis.
  • transmissible f. — caused by bovine papillomavirus 2 on the penis of the bull; transmitted by coitus.
