Software that manages data files. Often called "file managers," and erroneously called "database management systems" or "database managers," file management systems provide the ability to create, enter, change, query and produce reports on one file at a time. They have no relational database capability and typically do not include a programming language as do most database management systems (see DBMS). See file manager.
