filiform papillae

(fil′i-fôrm)
n.pl

Slender and thread-like protrusions that give the dorsal surface of the tongue its velvety texture and that cover the entire dorsal surface of the tongue. They are interspersed with fungiform papillae on the tongue apex and lateral surfaces.
