Biography

Final Conflict is a neo-progressive band in the vein of Saga, later Marillion and Galahad. Song oriented, the group fuses together art rock with hard rock and pop stylings. Final Conflict formed in Stoke on Trent, England, in 1985 by two vocalists/guitarists Andy Lawton and Brain Donkin, Mark Price (keyboards), Tony Moore (bass), and Arnie Wheatley (drums).

The band released their first two albums -- Channel 8 (1987) and The Time Has Arrived (1989) -- on cassette. Their first CD was Redress the Balance in 1991, which saw Moore becoming the band's second keyboardist while a new member, David Bridgett, joined on bass. Wheatley also left around this time to be replaced by Darren Bland. With response strong, the group recorded their most successful work in terms of popularity, the concept album Quest. Prior to recording the record, Steve Lipiec replaced Price on keyboards, while Moore left the band. Chris Moyden joined the band on drums. Although the future looked bright, the band signed to the Dutch label SI Music, which soon went belly-up and the band were left adrift. Finally the group signed to Angular records in Germany and released their album Stand Up in 1997. Well-recieved by critics and fans, Stand Up was not picked up by Angular's main distributor and the album was not as successful as hoped. In 1999, Bridgett left the group to be replaced by Chris Chalk. ~ Geoff Orens, All Music Guide

Final Conflict is a hardcore punk band from Long Beach, California formed in 1983. They have gone through various lineup changes since then, with the only constant member being Jeff Harp, their original guitarist. Currently the band's lineup includes Shane McLachlan of the grindcore band Phobia and also Calum Mackenzie former member of bands such as Oi Polloi and N.Y.C. peace punk band (A).P.P.L.(E). but was kicked out from both bands for undisclosed reasons.

Final Conflict is regarded as the first extreme hardcore punk band from the Los Angeles/Orange County area. They incorporated a British-style hardcore punk rock at a time when many punk rock bands were breaking up or banned from local clubs. Final Conflict continued to gain a following during the mid-1980s, a time when the punk rock scene was at its weakest popularity. Their perseverance and dedicated fan base helped spark a Los Angeles and Orange County punk rock revival of sorts during the late 1980s and early 1990s. This, of course, was the beginning of what would become the anomalous punk rock phenomenon that continued with increasing popularity throughout the mid 1990s into the late 2000s.

During this time, Final Conflict has always stuck to its original hardcore punk rock ideals. These include anti-government, anti-racist, and anti-war beliefs, which are propagated through their lyrics, mostly written by Jeff Harp.
