[Fr., land's end]

Department of the far west of Brittany containing the largest population of Breton speakers; known as the diocese of Quimper and Léon in ecclesiastical records and in many folk-tales. Also noted for its prevalence of megalithic monuments, especially dolmens (or portal-tombs).

 
 
(fēnēstĕr') [Lat. finis terrae=land's end], department (1990 pop. 839,800), NW France, in Brittany. Quimper is the capital.
